On 31 October 2019, an international symposium, themed “The Role of JAAI to Promote Food, Water, Energy, Humanity and Environmental Security” was held at Hotel Salak the Heritage in Bogor Indonesia. This is the 3rd symposium hosted by JSPS Alumni Association of Indonesia (JAAI) since its establishment in 2016. The number of the participants, including Mr. Yusuke Takahashi and Mr. Takeshi Miyazawa, First Secretary of Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, was over 130.
At the opening ceremony, Dr. Sukma Surya Kusumah, Chairman of the symposium and Dr. Mego Pinandito, Deputy Chairman for Scientific Services (LIPI), Ir. Prakoso, M.M., Secretary of Director General of Strengthening for Research and Development (RISTEK–BRIN) and Prof. Yamashita, Director of JSPS Bangkok office delivered welcome addresses respectively.
Afterward, small ceremony for JSPS BRIDGE Fellowship awardee and RONPAKU Medal Award. Prof. Yamashita handed the commemorative gift to Dr. Elizabeth Siregar who was selected as a BRIDGE fellow in FY2019 and also handed RONPAKU Medal to Dr. Lucky Zamzami who successfully obtained Ph.D. degrees from Japanese universities under the support of JSPS RONPAKU program in FY2018.
After the photo session, four lecturers from both Indonesia and Japan delivered speeches under the symposium’s theme “The Role of JAAI to Promote Food, Water, Energy, Human, and Environmental Security”. The speakers and respective presentation titles were as follows;

At the plenary session, twelve researchers made oral presentations which are in line with the theme of the Symposium.
Following the symposium, General Assembly was held. Dr. Subyakto reviewed the activities of JAAI since its establishment. In addition, based on the pre-selection, Dr. Wahyu Dwianto was appointed as the new chairman of JAAI for the following term.
During the symposium, poster presentation was also held at the same venue. The best poster award was announced at the closing ceremony.
Winding up the symposium, closing remark was made by Dr. Subyakto.
