JSPS Alumni Association of Thailand (JAAT) organized the Executive Committee meeting on 8 February 2018, followed by its General Assembly, JSPS RONPAKU Medal Award Ceremony and Presentations on Ph. D. thesis by 2016 RONPAKU Medal Awardees.

Following topics were discussed in the meeting under a chairperson Dr. Danai, JAAT President:

JAAT General Assembly
After its Executive Committee meeting, JAAT General Assembly was also held with some 30 participants. Dr. Kittisak, JAAT Secretary, reported JAAT activities for the year 2017 such as JAAT writing manuscript workshop, Japan-Thailand Diplomatic Relations 130th commemorative symposium “Japan Days” which was held in August by co-hosted JSPS, NRCT and JAAT and so on, followed by activities for the year 2018 was discussed by JAAT members. Then, Prof. Kuniaki Yamashita, Director, JSPS Bangkok Office, told them that he hoped to receive a lot of application of FY2018 BRIDGE Fellowship Program.
JSPS RONPAKU Medal Award Ceremony
Following the JAAT General Assembly, JSPS RONPAKU Medal award ceremony was held. Since 2003, JSPS had hosted the ceremony in order to honor and further encourage Thai researchers who obtained their Ph. D. degrees under RONPAKU Program.
In 2016, two awardees successfully obtained their Ph. D. degrees and were given RONPAKU medals and badges for JAAT member.
At present, 218 Thai researchers got their Ph. D. under the program so far, which is the largest number among all the countries that join in the program.
In the ceremony, in addition to presentations by two awardees, Dr. Narongchai Autsavapromporn, Chiang Mai University, who carried out his research at National Institute of Radiological Science in 2016 through Bridge Fellowship program, also made a presentation.

At the closing ceremony, Prof. Yamashita, Director, JSPS Bangkok Office, expressed his gratitude to all concerned with the ceremony and the seminar and he also hoped academic relationship between Japan and Thailand will be developing continuously.
