JAAT held the JSPS-NRCT-JAAT Annual Symposium 2025 “Flood Disaster Management under Extreme Weather: Lessons Learned from Japan and Thailand”

With the cooperation of JSPS, the JSPS Alumni Association Thailand (JAAT), and the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), we successfully held the annual symposium on “Flood Disaster Management under Extreme Weather: Lessons Learned from Japan and Thailand” on March 12th, 2025.

A total of four speakers from Japan and Thailand were invited to share their expertise, contributing to disaster prevention efforts and future water-related risk management.

The event began with welcome remarks from:

Prof. Dr. Yoshio Otani (Director of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Bangkok Office)
Mr. TANIMURA Takamasa (First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Thailand.)
Followed by opening remarks from:
Dr. Wiparat De-ong (Executive Director of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT))
Approximately 70+ participants attended the symposium, engaging in insightful discussions.

(Dr. Sutat Weesakul – Advisor to the Hydro-Informatics Institute (HII), Thailand)
– “Current Status and Challenges in Operating Flash Flood Early Warning Systems in Thailand”
(Dr. Supapap Patsinghasanee – Director of Information and Communication Technology Center, Department of Water Resources)

The symposium provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in disaster management strategies between Japan and Thailand.
