JAAP held its 1st lecture of WEBINAR SERIES 2022 “Climate Change Resiliency & Disaster Risk Reduction”

On April 23, Sat, the 1st lecture of WEBINAR SERIES 2022 “Climate Change Resiliency & Disaster Risk Reduction” was held by JSPS Alumni Association of the Philippines (JAAP) in partnership with JSPS and CLSU IAO.

The lecture was opened by Opening Remarks by Dr. Danilda Haufana-Duran, President of JAAP, JSPS RONPAKU and BRIDGE Fellow, and Scientist I, Philippine Carabao Center.

Following Dr. Hufana-Duran’s Remarks, Dr. Edgar Orden, President of Central Luzon State University delivered Welcome Remarks.

Dr. Orden’s Remarks were followed by Inspirational Messages by Dr. Annabelle V. Briones, JSPS RONPAKU Program Fellow / Director and Scientist I, DOST-ITD and Dr. Yoshio Otani, Director of JSPS Bangkok Office delivered inspirational messages, respectively.

Following the remarks and messages, a presentation entitled “Youth Participation in Disaster Risk Reduction & Waste Management” was made by Dr. Glenn Fernandez, ECR Representative, Future Earth Assembly and Associate Professor, Institute of Disaster Management and Reconstruction (IDMR), Sichuan University – Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chengdu, China.

In the seminar, Dr. Fernandez pointed out problems related with disaster wastes. He also suggested some solutions that young generation in the local community will be engaged in the reconstruction after the disaster. He mentioned that the young generation aged 15-24 consists of 20% of the country, which means they can be a great potential for the community development.

After the presentation, lots of questions were made from participants and Dr. Fernandez answered clearly.

Finally, Dr. Maria Rowena Eguia, Vice president of JAAP delivered Closing Remarks.
