On May 31, JSPS Bangkok Office organized the second JSPS guidance seminar since 2014 at Srinakharinwirot University in Bangkok. The university is a national one which produces a lot of teachers and government workers as one of leading universities and is located near our office.
Also, Meiji University ASEAN center kindly cooperated and supported to make the seminar and that made it successful.
Some 20 researchers participated. It started with an opening remark that science is important to get over several problems including natural disaster by Prof. Konuma Hiroyuki, Director of Meiji University ASEAN center and Prof. Prit Supasetsiri, Vice President for International Relations and Public, also gave a welcome address.
Following was the presentation for JSPS’s outline by Prof. Kuniaki Yamashita, Director of JSPS Bangkok Office and introduction of its international programs by Ms. Noriko Furuya, Deputy Director, and Mr. Toshio Ohta, International Program Associate.
And then, Dr. Sorasun Rungsiyanont, Associate Professor, Faculty of Dentistry, Srinakharinwirot University and a member of JSPS Alumni Association of Thailand, who obtained his PhD through JSPS RONPAKU (Dissertation PhD) Program, also talked about his experiences with humor, including research activities in Japan, Japanese culture and what he learned through the program.
In the Q&A session, participants asked several questions concerning requirements to apply for JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Overseas Researchers and showed their high interest and willingness.
