\n\u201cLearning to be and live together\u201d -What ESD aims for-<\/p>\n
Moderator: Prof. Homma\u2019s speech focused on what the \u201cleaning\u201d is and the value of life-long leaning. He encouraged participants to interview the person next to them about \u201cwhat did you learn recently,\u201d or \u201cwhat is the most precious thing that you learned in your life.\u201d Some of the participants are asked to share their conversation to everyone in the floor. Participants enjoyed his presentation and learned \u201cwhat the learning is\u201d through pair workings.<\/p>\n Prof. Homma<\/p><\/div>\n Prof. Homma interviewed one of the paticipants<\/p><\/div>\n Participants interviewed each other.<\/p><\/div>\n Mr. Oikawa introduced the long history of school education based on the concept of \u201cEducation for Sustainable Development (ESD)\u201d in Kesennuma city, Miyagi prefecture, which was greatly damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. He stressed that this particular education has helped the community to recover from the disaster. After the earthquake and tsunami, school children in Kesennuma city have been actively engaged in the reconstruction of the city through what they had learned from ESD. They also provided spiritual support to the community. Participants of the seminar were strongly impressed by the school children who have been contributing for the recovery of the community.<\/p>\n Mr. Oikawa<\/p><\/div>\n Prof. Suzuki started his presentation by asking, \u201cAre you optimistic or pessimistic about the future?\u201d Then, he showed the examples of natural disasters occurring all over the world and insisted the importance of learning \u201csustainability\u201d in the modern society. In his presentation, the concept and background of \u201cESD\u201d were introduced to the participants and discussed the definition of \u201csustainability\u201d with them.<\/p>\n Prof. Suzuki<\/p><\/div>\n Participants actively ask questions to speakers.<\/p><\/div>\n Asst. Prof. Jitti moderated the seminar with humor and summarized in Thai in order to facilitate participants\u2019 understanding of the topic.<\/p>\n
