On 26 September 2018, an international symposium, themed \u201cThe Role of JAAI to Promote Food, Water, Energy, Humanity and Environmental Security\u201d was held at Conservation Auditorium, Bogor Botanical Garden in Indonesia. This is the 2nd symposium hosted by JSPS Alumni Association of Indonesia (JAAI<\/a>) since its establishment in 2016. The World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI program, launched by MEXT<\/a>) also supported this symposium.<\/p>\n

This event was highlighted as commemorative symposium since this year (2018) marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Japan-Indonesia diplomatic relations. At the same time, we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the MOU signed between JSPS and Indonesian counterparts, which are LIPI <\/a>(Institute of Indonesian Sciences) and DG-RSTHE (Directorate General of Resources for Science Technology and Higher Education).<\/p>\n

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Iin Kurnia (Chairman of the symposium) and Dr. Sulaeman Yusuf (Head, Research Center for Biomaterials, LIPI) delivered welcome addresses respectively. Afterwards, Mr. Hisashi Kato (Advisor for International Affairs, JSPS) declared the opening of the symposium.<\/p>\n

JAAI invited four distinguished speakers from Japan and Indonesia, and they presented their recent research while relating it to the theme of the symposium. The speakers and respective presentation titles were as follows;<\/p>\n

In addition to the above-mentioned presentations, Dr. Ibrahim Tantawy (President of JSPS Alumni Association in Egypt (JSPSAAE<\/a>)) introduced JSPSAAE\u2019s activities and presented his research, titled \u201cAn Efficient Approach to Neocryptolepine Scaffolds as a Novel Antimalarial Agents.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
