{"id":1125,"date":"2016-09-09T18:43:58","date_gmt":"2016-09-09T11:43:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jsps-th.org\/jsps_en\/?p=1125"},"modified":"2016-10-14T14:29:58","modified_gmt":"2016-10-14T07:29:58","slug":"kyoto-asean-forum-2016-in-malaysia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jsps-th.org\/jsps_en\/2016\/09\/09\/1125\/","title":{"rendered":"Kyoto-ASEAN Forum 2016 in Malaysia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On September 8 and 9, JSPS Bangkok Office attended the Kyoto-ASEAN Forum organized by Kyoto University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.<br \/>\nThe forum aimed to provide Japan and ASEAN countries with opportunity to discuss academic collaboration and development between Japan and ASEAN and future vision, based on \u201cWINDOW\u201d concept of Kyoto University.<br \/>\nMore than 250 participants, including students, from related institutions and universities of 7 countries of ASEAN attended the forum.<\/p>\n<p>The first day, it started with an opening address by Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia, and Dr. Juichi Yamagiwa, President of Kyoto University, and Dr. Haruo Takeda, Corporate Chief Engineer, Research and Development Group, Hitachi, Ltd., made a keynote speech. JSPS Bangkok Office joined the latter session, and Prof. Yamashita made a presentation. In Q&#038;A session, there were specific questions including requirement of application for JSPS international programs, and many of participants shown their interest in them. There was mutual concerns that Japanese students and researchers are interested in studying in ASEAN are still fewer than ASEAN ones are interested in Japan, that there is room for improvement for it, and that Japan side contacts ASEAN side to do joint-research, however, it does not properly make progress.
