On February 19, JSPS Bangkok Office organized a program guidance semianr at the University of Yangon, Myanmar.
Dr. Kyaw Naing, Pro-Rector of University of Yangon kicked off the session with opening remarks and Mr. Hideaki Higashi, Second Secretary, the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar conveyed the congratulatory message.
Following was the presentation by Prof. Kuniaki Yamashita, Director, and Ms. Noriko Furuya, Deputy Director of JSPS Bangkok Office about S&T policies of Japan, outline of JSPS and its international programs.
The session also featured a guest speaker who is a former JSPS fellow. Dr. Kay Lwin Tun, Associate Professor of Sittwe University was awarded JSPS Invitation fellowship (long-term) and conducted research at the University of Tokyo. Dr. Kay delivered the presentation about application procedure, how to find a host researcher and research experiences in Japan.
In the Q&A session, many questions were raised such as what kind of fellowships or scholarships are available to obtain degree from Japanese universities, eligibility of Myanmar applicants and eligibility of Japanese institutions.
The event was received remarkable attention from almost 100 Myanmar researchers and students.
