On January 19, JSPS Bangkok Office organized a JSPS guidance seminar at Yangon Technological University (YTU), Myanmar. We hold the same seminar in February 2016.
The seminar was opened with Welcome address and Opening remarks from Dr. Mi Sandar Mon, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, YTU.
In the introduction of JSPS activities in East Asia and JSPS international program, Prof. Kuniaki Yamashita, Director, JSPS Bangkok Office, expressed his gratitude for holding this seminar, followed by Ms. Noriko Furuya, Deputy Director explained JSPS’s outline and activities of JSPS Bangkok office. Then, Ms. Akiko Doi and Mr. Kohei Saito, both of International Program Associate introduced JSPS international programs such as “Fellowship programs”, “RONPAKU program”, “Bilateral program” and “Core-to-Core program” respectively
Afterward, Dr. Daw kay Thwe Hlaing, Professor, the Department of Geography, Yangon University, who had studied in the University of Tokyo by MEXT scholarship and experienced research in Mie university as a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow, made presentation about research activities and life in Japan in Myanmar language.
The focus in her presentation was how to find a host researcher, how to apply the program and her research experience in Japan.
The last speaker was Dr. Mutsuaki Suzuki, Director, Intellectual Property Unit, National Institute of Genetics. He made presentation under the topic ” Introduction of technological innovation capability and Nagoya protocol implementation in Japanese University”.
Over 150 participants attended the seminar. In the Q&A session, they asked about requirement and screening of each program, thorough which we realized that many participants showed high a interest in JSPS international programs.
Last of all, Dr. Mi Sandar Mon delivered closing remark mentioning that this seminar was useful for participants to understand JSPS and its international programs.
