On September 17, 2026, the 6th JAAM-ASM-JSPS Science, Technology, Innovation & Economy (STIE) Symposium was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, jointly organized by JSPS Alumni Association Malaysia (JAAM), Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), and JSPS Bangkok Office. The theme of the symposium was Navigating Malaysia’s Sustainable Blue Economy Through a STIE-driven Approach.
At the opening ceremony, welcome remarks were delivered by Prof. Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, President of JAAM; Academician Distinguished Prof. Datuk Dr. Looi Lai Meng, Vice President of ASM; and Dr. Yoshio Otani, Director of the JSPS Bangkok Office. Ms. Xiuyu Ding, International Program Associate at the JSPS Bangkok Office, also gave a presentation on “JSPS and Its International Programs.”
This was followed by presentations from four researchers from Japan and Malaysia, who introduced their latest research findings and initiatives aimed at addressing societal challenges. Finally, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Aileen Tan Shau Hwai, Vice President of JAAM, delivered the closing remarks. Approximately 50 participants, including researchers, students, and industry representatives in Japan and Malaysia attended the symposium.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for active exchange of views across disciplines and national borders, contributing to the strengthening of networks among researchers in Japan and Malaysia and the creation of new opportunities for international collaborative research.
