1.Overview
Kyushu University will participate as a supplier in the “Future Society Showcase” project at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, which will open from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
Kyushu University’s Direct Air Capture and Utilization device (known as DAC-U🄬), which is being developed as part of a NEDO-Moonshot Project led by Professor Shigenori Fujikawa from the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (WPI-I2CNER), will be exhibited to showcase its potential applications for future society.
The DAC-U🄬 device selectively captures CO2 from the atmosphere using an ultra-thin nanomembrane —developed by Fujikawa—that is just 1/300th the thickness of plastic wrap. The CO₂ it collects can be used in everyday ways, such as creating methane for cooking on gas stoves and promoting plant growth.
A variety of Japan’s advanced carbon-neutral technologies and facilities, including the DAC-U🄬, will be installed in the “RITE Future Forest”, the carbon recycle factory.
