JSPS Guidance Seminar at Prince of Songkla University

On the 29th January, 2020, JSPS Bangkok Office and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) organized guidance seminar jointly at Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Hat Yai campus. PSU was founded in 1967. It consists of 5 campus.

As this JSPS guidance seminar was a part of the Japan Education Fair led by the Embassy of Japan to Thailand, we visited Dr. Niwat Keawpradup (President of PSU) with Mr. Shigeki Kobayashi (COUNSELLOR, Director, Japan Information Service). Japanese Embassy’s staff and university’s staff who joined the fair can also get the opportunity to meet the president, too.
Furthermore, the representative of Old Japan Students’ Association, Kingdom of Thailand (OJSAT) announced that they are recruiting the alumni. JSPS alumni can also join OJSAT (There are some conditions).

After the visit, JSPS-JST guidance seminar was kicked off with the opening remarks by Assoc. Prof. Praneed Songwathana, RN, PhD. She said that PSU is trying to increase the number of collaborating universities all over the world, and it expects more researches with Japanese researchers.

At the beginning of the seminar, Mr. Tomiyama, Deputy Director of JSPS Bangkok office, expressed his gratitude to PSU for holding the seminar.
In the presentation, he introduced JSPS’s outline followed by the introduction of various international programs by Ms. Usui and Mr. Hamabata, International Program Associates.

Afterwards, Dr. Vannarat Saechan gave a speech about her research experience for JSPS Core-to-Core program, and BRIDGE Fellowship Program. She has cooperated with the researchers in Tohoku University and Hokkaido University.
She also introduced how to apply for JSPS programs, operating the internet page.

Finally, Yoshihide Kobayashi, the chief of the JST Singapore office, explained the history of JST, and its international programs such as SATREPS.

Approximately 15 researchers attended this guidance seminar. We hope many researchers utilize JSPS’s international programs to promote further research collaboration between Thailand and Japan.
