JSPS guidance seminar was held at Chulalongkorn University

On 6 July 2018, the JSPS Bangkok Office organized JSPS guidance seminar at Chulalongkorn University, the oldest national university in Thailand. This is the 1st JSPS guidance seminar at Chulalongkorn University since Director Prof. Yamashita was appointed in 2012. About 50 participants from various faculties gathered to the event.

After the warm welcome address by Associate Prof. Vithaya Kulsomboon (Assistant to the President for Research, Development and Innovation) in the opening session, Director Prof. Yamashita presented Japanese government’s structure on Science-Technology and JSPS’s role. Later on, Deputy Director Mr. Tomiyama, International Program Associates Mr. Niihara and Ms. Minowa followed by introducing JSPS Alumni Associations and international programs.

As special speakers, we welcomed two researchers working at Chulalongkorn University. The 1st speaker, Asst. Prof. Juthamas Ratanavaraporn (Biomedical Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering) is a former JSPS postdoctoral fellow. She conducted research at Kyoto University.

The 2nd speaker, Prof. Songsri Kulpreecha (Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science) who is a former RONPAKU fellow. She obtained Ph.D. degree from Osaka University under RONPAKU program.

We hope this guidance seminar was useful and informative for the participants, and also expect further collaboration between Chulalongkorn University and Japanese research institutions.
