On 17 October, JSPS Bangkok Office organized a JSPS guidance seminar at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang, Malaysia which is one of the leading universities in the country. We hold the same seminar last year with cooperation of Mr. Masatoshi Soeda, Director of Japan Culture Center (JCC) of USM.
The seminar was relayed to another campus through TV conference system and started with the Welcome address and Opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, Deputy Vice Chancellor, USM who has experiences to conduct researches with Japanese researchers under the JSPS programs.
Prof. Kuniaki Yamashita, Director of JSPS Bangkok Office, expressed his gratitude for holding the seminar, followed by the presentation on JSPS’s outline by Ms. Noriko Furuya, Deputy Director, and the introduction of its international programs by Ms. Akiko Doi and Mr. Kohei Saito, International Program Associates respectively.
Afterwards, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Aileen Tan Shau Hwai, Director, Centre of Marine & Coastal Studies (CEMACS), who has conducted international collaborative research under the Core-to-Core program for a long time, made presentation of her experiences of research activities with pictures and mentioned that Seminars and fieldworks under the Core-to-Core program give young researchers good opportunities to make international connections.
There were around 60 participants, and some of them have experienced JSPS programs such as the Core-to-Core program and HOPE Meetings. In addition, it is great news for us that two excellent students in USM are selected to attend the 10th HOPE Meetings in March, 2018.
In the Q&A session, many participants asked questions about JSPS international collaboration programs and most of participants showed highly interested in it.
